Island Dynamics: Vision

Island Dynamics is a new organisation engaged in islands studies in all its aspects. Through our range of activities, we create and communicate knowledge about the cultures and economies of maritime communities and cultural and geographical islands worldwide.

Island Dynamics Conferences
At the heart of our work is the Island Dynamics series of biennial conferences. We aim for these conferences to become premier events on the islands cultural and economic calendar internationally. Our vision centres on three core values:

Cross-Sectorality
Taking Islands out of the Box bridges the academic-practitioner divide by facilitating dialogue between scholars and participants from politics, civil society, the arts, and the business world.

Interdisciplinarity
Taking Islands out of the Box involves a wide range of researchers, from folklorists to economists, anthropologists to political scientists, and historians to geographers.

Cultural Exchange
Taking Islands out of the Box events are alive with music, dance, and foodscapes, focusing on the host community but also bringing together performers from across the globe.

Island Dynamics: Occasional Papers
The Island Dynamics: Occasional Papers series will offer a platform for the exchange of research and ideas by publishing peer-reviewed papers, primarily drawn from presentations given at Island Dynamics conferences.
